** EPA Pesticide
Requirements
As with all pesticides, it is important to
read and follow the directions on the label.
For bulbs, there is a systemic fungicide with
a chemical name of thiophanate-methyl
found in Cleary's 3336 4.5 F which is labeled as a dip at the rate of 2
tablespoons per gallon of water. Soak clean bulbs for 15 to 30 minutes in a warm dip (80 to 85 F). Then, dry and store. The Wettable Powder (WP)
formulation is also cleared by the EPA for use as a dip at a rate of 1
tablespoon
per gallon of treatment mixture.
These same fungicides can also be used as a cutting dip prior to sticking.
The rate is
1 T for both the 4.5F and WP formulations of 3336. This fungicide is
marketed on
the homeowner market under the trade name Halt, and can be found under
different
brand names. Check the labels of fungicides in your garden
centers to see if this
fungicide is available in your area. Unfortunately, these
products are currently hard
to find, but hopefully will be making their way to the marketplace
soon. Ask your
dealer about them, and see what they can do to help you.
