Bulbs - Propagation by Sections
Oxalis Bulbs – Some varieties of Oxalis have elongated scaly bulb sections. The example being used is a purple Oxalis with Lavender Blooms. Step 1. If possible, Oxalis should be divided in the dormancy. If they are never dormant in your region, you may do so in the winter time when they are preferably not in bloom. Step 2. Dig up the Oxalis using a hand held trowel being careful not the cut roots or scaly bulbs. Step 3. More than likely, you will find 2 inch bulbs connected at the base. Separate them at the base by gently breaking them apart. Step 4. Break each bulb into 3/8 to 1/2 inch sections. They should snap easily into sections. Step 5. Place a small amount of rooting hormone with a fungicide** in a zippered storage bag. Place the bulb sections in the bag, zip the bag shut tightly and shake the bag to dust the scales with the mixture. |
