    The Southern Magnolia

Here is a site that I recommend for learning more about the Southern Magnolia and how to grow it from seed. The main page plays the tune of 'A Summer Place' and the photographs are superb.

Wonderful site. I've started a scrapbook of information about plants and will print this out and include it. I like to grow things from seed just for the fun of it. So now I must gather some seed this fall and try my hand at magnolia grandiflora. I love this tree because it was growing when dinasaurs roamed the earth.

    Wink Happy Easter!

Someone wrote and asked me what the Southern Magnolia had to do with Easter....

Well, for those of you who have never seen a Southern Magnolia, they are just now starting to bloom. The trees are evergreen, and the blooms are huge and white. For as long as I can remember, I always seem to notice them starting to bloom around Easter time. It's a beautiful sight!

I stopped by Home Depot this morning, and sure enough, the 'Easter' lilies are marked down to $1. Most still have blooms, and many are trying to form seeds. I rescued 3 of these lovely plants for my garden. The bulbs are huge, and they are definitely root bound. Since they were forced, they may not do as well next year, but I can always propagate them using the scales.

And who knows, maybe they will actually form seeds! It's a shame, but they do not bloom normally at Easter time here.

    Enjoy, and AGAIN,

Happy Easter!!!!! The Easter Bunny is going to be busy tonight!!!!
