When I had a vegetable garden and grew okra, I would leave the last of the crop to dry on the plants. Cardinals adored eating those dried okra seeds.

I miss those days... My grandmother collected Cardinal figurines. She adored the color red. I thought it was pretty cool when Hunter's elementary school chose the Cardinal as their mascot.

I should really try to plant some okra and watermellon for Hunter this spring. Hunter loves shrimp gumbo and can never eat enough watermellon.

I still spot the Cardinals in the yard occasionally, but not nearly as often as I did when I was growing okra.

I am sure if I were outside more I would see more of the birds that winter over here; Cardinals, Jays, Starlings (I do not really like these birds! but the males make suck a diligent attempt at song one has to give them a little respect). Also several species of Sparrows and other finches. Geese on all big bodies of water!

If I am lucky I spot a Cardinal or two when I look out the windows - your pair is awesome and so bright!
