They look great!
Del, you can actually post the full-size image here if you want to. Instead of copying the "HTML Thumb" from Photobucket, you can copy the "IMG Code" and post it here... like this:

Definitely one of my absolute favorites, and such a nice display. There are Limas looking in every direction at once.

The reasons I use the precursor called "thumbnail"are; first, that they are much more dial up modem friendly. We still have a lot of people all over the world with dial up,including in the USA. The second is to not load up the forums memory with my big pictures. Anyone wanting to see a larger picture, has only to click on the thumbnail.
Del
Hi Del, the way you did it is great too. I mentioned the other way just because I wasn't sure whether you used the thumbnail way deliberately or not.![]()
Dave
Dave, where were you, when I was fumbling around, trying to learn to use that site!?
Dave,do you have any Hippeastrum which have bloomed out of cycle, like this one? If so, which ones?
Del
Del, all my Hippeastrum are indoor, so they all bloom sort of out of cycle. Like if they lose leaves all their leaves and "sleep," I put them in the basement. Sometimes one would wake up early, so I take them upstairs and they start their new cycle. Others seem to wake up late or don't wake up by themselves, and those I take them out when I feel my procrastination has been too much.
Then there are some that never completely lose their leaves. They seem to bloom whenever they want to and they don't do it at the same time.
Dave
Sorry Del
Did not realize you were on dial up - but I do like the big Pix![]()
Abby
I'm not on dialup, but many people who look at this forum are. Some of the forum members are on dialup.I don't want to discourage anyone from veiwing posts of this forum. I would like to see as many as possible become involved.
I remember how exasperating it was to download via dialup. I often thought about cancelling my service until it was improved.
I saw some very good news online today. In the US,Google is starting to sell
much faster internet service in some places. No doubt the other IPs will be upgrading or dropping prices,or both,as a result. It's about time the USA catches up with the rest of the industrialized world. Our service is very slow and expensive, compared with many places.

When I joined up I was on Dial Up a couple of years back and the pix did not cause me great inconvenience, it was the uploading of them that took the time. But I re-organised my time and did some other chores whilst my pix got uploaded, no real drama or problem.
Personally I feel that new members are more likely to join if they see nice pictures being displayed.

Image size vrs file size, therein lies the issue.
An image 640 x 480 pixels (which I routinely post) can cause some issues with dial-up, but the real hogs are the ones that a huge, 2400 x 1600 and larger that most of todays 8+ mega pixel cameras put out. Re-sizing to a more web friendly size does not always take care of the file size issue as they can still be 200+ kb or more depending on the "DPI" (dots per inch of the actual image) The easiest way around this issue is to make it a habit of compressing your images file size to 100kb. This is easy enough to do if you are using IRFANVIEW and you have the RIOT plug-in (can get it from Irfanview with the plug-in package). With it you can set the KB to whatever you wish (75 to 100kb seems to load without much of a problem for dial up users as long as their system is relatively new). With Irfanview you can also set you image quality up to 100% or High, which I do as many of my images seem to be copied and used elsewhere and are viewed on various sized monitors. I want resolution/detail to be the best I can make it with the equipment I use. (Other image editors also allow for file compression; Irfanview is what I have used for forever, so that is what I talk/tell about. Plus it's a FREE application!)
A large image compressed to a small file size can fill a viewers screen and still load in seconds. I have a wide screen monitor and could attempt to show you, but not everyone has a large monitor, let alone a wide screen one! If anyone would like an email review, LMK and I will email you a screen sized image so you can test your systems down load speed.

Me, I just cheat and use Photo Shop.![]()
Kim,
Adjusting the size of an image, be it the pixel size or the KB is not cheating. It's being considerate. I began using Irfanview years ago because it was free and I was just learning and not about to shell out big bucks for a program I was not yet "savy" enough to use. I've kept Irfanview as my basic editor simply because it's creator has continued to improve it over the years and keep it as freeware. I also have Photoshop Elements and use it for the more delicate work as well as for the various manipulations I do the Irfanview do not do. I also use other programs/applications to do things the PSE doesn't do or that they do more easily, like making the background transparent.
Anyway, whatever application one is comfortable with is what they should use I just want all y'all to be aware that pixel size and file size are two different things and both are easy enough to utilize.
BTW, I have yet to find the compression agent on PSE, whereas I know where it is on Irfanview and it is a loss-less compression tool.
Huggies!
