    OT: Kitten

We don't really need another kitten, but I can't help but to feel that Hunter did the right thing.

He found this kitten in a wooded area. His left eye was all messed up, and Hunter was sure that he was going to lose the eye. Anyway, he brought it home and is taking care of it himself in his bedroom.

A trip to the Vet says that it truly a HE and that the eye will recover, but how much eyesight remains to be seen. Medication was given to help...

The kitten is 6-8 weeks old, all alone and left to fend for itself. My nephew said that it looks like a tiger, so if the Mama comes around, he is out of there.... So, his name is Tiger!

    Just thought I would share!

Poor little thing, I'm glad Hunter found this little one and rescued him too. Bless his heart! I am certain that with Hunter's ministrations and all the TLC Tiger will be getting that he will be healthy and extremely happy in no time flat. I have a feeling he is already a happy little camper.

Since this kitten allowed Hunter to pick him up, heck just get close enough to pick him up he was cared for by humans at some point. And he probably hadn't been oh his own for very long. kittens are quick to become suspicious of people and this one's easy acceptance shows he has been "socialized".

I have a very soft spot in my heart for felines, why else would I have so many myself!?

BTW, is the kittens middle name "Woods" by chance, since that is (kind of) where he was found?

Good on you, Hunter! I'm proud to know you!

He does look like a tiger. His ears are big! Maybe because he is still small. When he gets bigger maybe they won't look that big.

I just checked out the songs written by Del. They are pretty good!

And I did not realize Del was a he until just now!

The kitten is getting friskier and friskier every day, but he hides under Hunter's bed after we put medicine in his eyes. He is quite playful which does indicate that he has had human contact.

Yes, I remember having to ask Del about the he/she thing. I figured that the answer was he, but had to ask.

He is a songwriter, singer and long time hybridizer of hippeastrum. He also used to have a Rose nursery, is a Vietnam War veteran and a devout Christian. There are lots more of his songs that I would like to link because they are GREAT!!! I am in awe with his diversity and accomplishments.

Prior to now, I think that Tom was the only forum member who knew of my passion for music.

I am grateful that Del has given me permission to link to them...

The kitten's eye has been saved, but he will most likely always be blind in the left eye. He currently does not respond to the vet's test of vision in that eye and that eye is smaller and more recessed.

The right eye is damaged, but he apparently has some vision in it because he does respond to movement and can see something. How much, we do not know.

Hunter loves this kitten more than any other pet that we have had and the kitten loves the boy that rescued him, so I guess there is another kittie in the household.

Tiger is adorable and by far the most enjoyable kitten that we have ever had. Of course, the others were one of a huge litter, but one has to realize that I did not help give birth to this one, and he was apparently abandoned before his eyes even opened. He is definitely a miracle baby. Heart breaks that people would do that...

Anyway, no one wants an almost blind kitten and that breaks my heart even more, so here we go again...

Bottom line is that the kitten is grateful for having found a loving home and definitely shows his appreciation and love.

Heart Break Hotel, right? We did not need another cat!

    Yes, Abby!

I should have a sub-forum for pets. We will think about that.

For now, I wanted to give an update on Tiger. He is the most adorable kitten that I have ever known. Last night, Hunter was gone, so I checked on him and fell asleep on Hunter's twin size bed with Tiger purring up a storm as I held him close to my chest.

Tiger is blind in the left eye and has very little eyesight in the right eye, but he doesn't seem to mind and can see well enough to know when we enter the room. Tiger is precious!

He sure looks a hundred percent on what he looked when he arrived. Marvelous what a bit of love, food ans a bit of kindness will do

    Ann and Hunter,

Tiger is looking quite fit and his coat is really coming into good condition; you've done well by him. I would caution you about feeding him (or any feline) too much cow's milk as it can cause serious diarrhea. Giving Tiger the kitten formula supplement would be better as it also includes many of the vitamins, minerals and trace elements cats/kittens need for strong bone development and even it should be offered sparingly.

I wouldn't worry too much about Tiger's eyesight, as long as he has his whiskers, he will get along just fine although I wouldn't move furniture around too much!

Cats are amazing creatures and will rise above a handicap that would leave most humans frustrated (to say the least).

Yes, the cow's milk went bye-bye as soon as we realized his health was improving.

His left eye got better with medication, then suddenly it started getting bad again. The vet said that he was in tremendous pain. He was blind in that eye. You wouldn't know it because he was so happy to see us come home.

Anyway, it was a tough decision, but blindness in the eye and so much pain made us decide to have the eye removed. We were afraid for the infection to contaminate his good eye.

After the surgery, Tiger was very miserable for three days, but I have to tell you that he is so very loving now, stitches on his eye and all.

He is still a beautiful kitten, and now that he is not in so much pain, he seems to be more cuddly and loving.

He is a beautiful cat, so loving and friendly. I cringe to think what would have happened to him if he had been left stranded.

No recent pics, but I promise to get some soon.

Ann, I am sure it was a tough decision as you said, but I am glad it is over and that he is recovering and will suffer no more pain soon.

    Ann,

Seems the Lord knew what He was doing when He had Hunter find Tiger. He knew you would be able to do/have done what needed to be done so Tiger would have a happy and loved life while he is on his earthly mission.

You are definitely a "Kitty Angel" and a Friend to (All) Animals.

Blessed Be, my friend, Blessed Be!

    Monday morning was sad news...

Hunter woke up to discover that Tiger was gone from his bedroom. Then, he realized why. Without thinking, he opened one of his windows (still missing the screen) and apparently Tiger found his way outside.

Every day, we have looked for him, called for him and no sign of Tiger. Yesterday, we sadly gave up. Surely, if someone had found him, they would have noticed that he had received vetinary care for the lost eye, but no reports of being found.

This morning, Hunter's alarm goes off at 5am so that he can be at the bus stop before 6am. He heard Tiger outside his bedroom window, opened the window, called for him and hanging half out of the window, scooped him back into .the safety of his room.

A rushed visit to the vet, and it appears that all is fine with Tiger, but he still needs drops in the one eye. I have to tell you that this kitten loves Hunter. As I took him out of the travel cage and was holding him, he heard Hunter talking and squirmed until Hunter came to get him.

Surprisingly, Tiger didn't lose any weight during his 3 day absence. Hunter said that he was hungry, would eat a few bites, run up to love on him, then eat a few more bites.

Hunter is so excited to have him back. He keeps smiling and saying, "I love him!"

    Ann and Hunter,

I am so happy to read good news about Tiger! That doesn't happen often enough in these situations.

What probably happened is that Tiger inadvertently jumped out or possible fell out of the open, unscreened window and he got scared when he found himself in unfamiliar territiory and hid himself away for a few days. He probably ran to begin with and by the time he stopped he had gotten himself lost and it took his a while to get his bearings and find his way home. Uncannily to the window he exited the house from - the last place he remembered seeing from that side of the wall.

Love is a very strong magnet and the bond between Tiger and Hunter is very strong. Though Hunter may say he gave up, his heart and sub-conscious didn't and THAT is what helped Tiger find his way home. Believe it!

I know the feeling of empty and helplessness one is filled with in these cases and I am so thankful this has had a happy ending. I will see my missing boys again, someday along with all the other felines and canines I have even had and loved. There won't be a open spot on my spirit as they will cover every nook and cranny! As of 3 weeks ago, little Tori is waiting for me on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

Hunter, hold Tiger close and never be afraid to show any animal you care about them, and yes, even love them. No matter how big or small that creature may be.
