I watched a little of the Today show this morning and Matt Lauer was doing his 'Where in the World is Matt Lauer?" He was in Amsterdam. What caught my attention besides his standing in an endless field of tulips in bloom with a windmill turning in the background, was the Flower Auction. I didn't catch the details but everyday they auction millions of plants to buyers(for distributors/stores) and the plants can end up shipped and at their destination by the end of the day. These are shipped internationally and could be the origin of many of our plants and flowers.
The closest I could find to what I saw is in the above link. The show talked about 'the (bid) clock' , the market being 9 football fields big and the millions of plants. Very interesting.
Is anyone familiar with this ?
