    Daffodils

I received this email (yes, I get lots of those), and I am not sure how to answer it.

I have always started Daffodils in the ground...

    Any suggestions?

Can you tell me how to start daffodils in clear vases full of water as an early taste of spring. would like to make up several for presents. Thanks."

My first reaction was 'daffodils ..in water' ?! Then, I did a quick internet search which verified that that was a proper reaction BUT, if paperwhites can be technically considered 'daffodils', we can pursue that thought. Here is a link with, thank the lord, a photo !

In addition, hyacinths can be forced in a similar manner.
