Planting depth for oxblood lilies ?

Does anyone know if the oxblood lily(rhodophiala bifida) gets planted only up to its 'neck' or 3 x its height like most bulbs ?

    Cathy,
Southern bulb company says 3 x the height of the bulb. These are lovely.. Where did you find them? They will go on my list of wanna haves.

    Cathy,

After an exhausting search I finally found an article for you that answers your question and gives interesting information on the plant/bulb itself. Enjoy!

Rhodophiala are very closely related to Sprekelia!
Look at the picture of the company, this bucket filled up with these pretty, black, long-necked bulbs - which do look so remarkably like Sprekelia bulbs. The long neck does already indicate that they CAN be planted deep. And, it is wise to do so in order to protect them from frosts. On the other hand it is absolutely possible to plant them, necks barely covered, into pots.
