    Prayer Of The Day

    Prayer for Times of Fear

    Almighty God, the Refuge of all that are distressed, grant unto us that, in all trouble of this our mortal life, we may flee to the knowledge of Thy lovingkindness and tender mercy; that so, sheltering ourselves therein, the storms of life may pass over us, and not shake the peace of God that is within us. Whatsoever this life may bring us, grant that it may never take from us the full faith that Thou art our Father. Grant us Thy light, that we may have life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

    THE CANTICLE OF THE CREATURES

    The Canticle of the Creatures

    Most High, all-powerful, all-good Lord,
    All praise is Yours, all glory, honor and blessings.
    To you alone, Most High, do they belong;
    no mortal lips are worthy to pronounce Your Name.

    We praise You, Lord, for all Your creatures,
    especially for Brother Sun,
    who is the day through whom You give us light.
    And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendor,
    of You Most High, he bears your likeness.

    We praise You, Lord, for Sister Moon and the stars,
    in the heavens you have made them bright, precious and fair.

    We praise You, Lord, for Brothers Wind and Air,
    fair and stormy, all weather's moods,
    by which You cherish all that You have made.

    We praise You, Lord, for Sister Water,
    so useful, humble, precious and pure.

    We praise You, Lord, for Brother Fire,
    through whom You light the night.
    He is beautiful, playful, robust, and strong.

    We praise You, Lord, for Sister Earth,
    who sustains us
    with her fruits, colored flowers, and herbs.

    We praise You, Lord, for those who pardon,
    for love of You bear sickness and trial.
    Blessed are those who endure in peace,
    by You Most High, they will be crowned.

    We praise You, Lord, for Sister Death,
    from whom no-one living can escape.
    Woe to those who die in their sins!
    Blessed are those that She finds doing Your Will.
    No second death can do them harm.

    We praise and bless You, Lord, and give You thanks,
    and serve You in all humility.

    One of my favorite prayers is from St. Francis. I will be committing it to memory when I get back. It goes, "Where there is _____, let me sow______" Obviously, I haven't yet committed it yet. It's a very familiar one.

    PEACE PRAYER

    Sandi,

    Is this the one you're thinking of:

    The Peace Prayer of St. Francis

    Lord make me an instrument of your peace

    Where there is hatred,
    Let me sow love;
    Where there is injury, pardon;
    Where there is error, truth;
    Where there is doubt, faith;
    Where there is despair, hope;
    Where there is darkness, light;
    And where there is sadness, Joy.

    O Divine Master grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled
    As to console;
    To be understood, as to understand;
    To be loved, as to love.
    For it is in giving that we receive,
    It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
    And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
    Nature is trying very hard to make us succeed, but nature does not depend on us. We are not the only experiment.

    Thanks, Rebecca. I have it at home, and there is one somewhere here, but when I am at the computer, DD and SIL are at work. I try not to prowl around here too much.

    This copy will be sent to my Word, print made larger, and printed out--laminated and eventually committed to memory. Thanks for providing it.

    Prayer for the Beginning of the Day

    Prayer for the Beginning of the Day

    O Lord, grant me to greet the coming day in peace, help me in all things to rely upon your holy will. In every hour of the day reveal your will to me. Bless my dealings with all who surround me. Teach me to treat all that comes to throughout the day with peace of soul and with firm conviction that your will governs all. In all my deeds and words, guide my thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen events, let me not forget that all are sent by you. Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without embittering and embarrassing others. Give me strength to bear the fatigue of the coming day with all that it shall bring. Direct my will, teach me to pray. And you, yourself, pray in me. Amen.

    Family Prayer for Grace

    Family Prayer for Grace

    God, Goddess, Divine Spirit of all there is, we thank you for this opportunity to gather together in one another's company. We thank you for the light you bring to this family gathering.

    Please grant us the vision to see the highest in one another, and grant us the opportunity to continue to be there for each other in good times, as well as not-so-great-times.

    Give us strength and fortitude to ride the tides of change, and empower us always to be nurturing and loving with one another. Open our spiritual eyes that we may see one another for who we truly are... and love one other in the same spirit.

    May sadness, disappointment and anger be minimal; may happiness, positive thoughts and good experiences together be bountiful. May we always cope, and hope, with each other... with grace.

    We thank the Divine for this delicious dinner, prepared with love. May all consumed here tonight fill us with health and well-being. Amen. Dig in!

    SERENITY PRAYER

    THE SERENITY PRAYER

    God grant me the serenity
    to accept the things I cannot change;
    courage to change the things I can;
    and wisdom to know the difference.
    Living one day at a time;
    enjoying one moment at a time;
    accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
    taking, as He did, this sinful world
    as it is, not as I would have it;
    trusting that He will make all things right
    if I surrender to His Will;
    that I may be reasonably happy in this life
    and supremely happy with Him
    forever in the next.

    Amen.

    WORKDAY PRAYER

    Workday Prayer

    Lord Jesus, as I enter this workplace,
    I bring Your presence with me.
    I speak Your peace, Your grace, and Your perfect order into the atmosphere of this office.
    I acknowledge Your Lordship over all that will be spoken, thought, decided and accomplished within these walls.

    Lord Jesus, I thank You for the gifts You have deposited in me.
    I do not take them lightly, but commit to using them responsibly and well.
    Give me a fresh supply of truth and beauty; on which to draw as I do my job.

    Anoint my creativity, my ideas, my energy so that even my smallest task may bring You honor.
    Lord, when I am confused, guide me. When I am weary, energize me.
    Lord, when I am burned out, infuse me with the light of Your Holy Spirit.

    May the work that I do and the way I do it, bring hope, life, and courage to all that I come in contact with today.
    And Oh Lord, even in this day's most stressful moment, may I rest in You.
    In the name of Jesus my savior I pray.
    Amen.

    From Today's BeliefNet Mailing:

    Prayer for Help With Finances

    Dear God,

    I surrender my financial affairs and concerns about money to your Divine care and love.

    I ask that you remove my worries, anxieties, and fears about money, and replace them with faith.

    I know and trust that my debts will be paid and money will flow into my life.

    I have only to look to nature to see proof of the abundance you provide.

    I release all negative thoughts about money, and know that prosperity is my true state.

    I commit to being grateful for all that I now have in my life.

    I learn to manage my finances wisely, seeking help where needed.

    And finally, I ask you to help me understand my purpose in life and to act on that purpose with courage and strength. I know that prosperity will come, in part, by doing work I love. Please help me use my skills and knowledge to be of service in the world.

    Thank you, God.

    Amen

    (- Lynn Robinson)

    When I read the title in this mailing, something told me this was more than just a coincidence, that God, himself was trying to tell me something. As I read the prayer, my eyes and my heart began to sting as I had let myself get to concerned about my own state of financial affairs and had forgotten that I had given my very heavy burden over to the Lord. Feeling somewhat chastised by my Lord and Savior I have repeated this prayer and will continue to do so throughout today and everyday as well as anytime I feel myself beginning to worry.

    I ask that everyone join with me in reciting this prayer, not only for ourselves but for all who now find themselves in financial difficulties. My thoughts go especially for all people who have been the victims of all the natural disasters, not only here in the states but worldwide.

    Hang in there, Rebecca.

    Do the best that you can. Pray that God will help you make the right decisions and lead you in such a way that you will be happy.

    Determine what really makes you happy. Money helps to make ends meet, but it doesn't make you happy.

    I know that I could make more money in computers, and even though getting started in teaching has been rough. Still, I know how much I enjoy teaching, and it is what I want to do.

    It takes time. It means hardships and dealing with things I should never have to deal with, but I am confident that I will find happiness in what I really want to do.

    If I don't, I will PUNT and start all over again.

    Keep on praying and believe in yourself. Be positive! That is probably the hardest thing to do when times are rough. That is what I am seeing work with so many that were hit hard by Katrina. They get down, then they look around them and realize how much there is to be positive about.

    God gives that to us. The power to be positive and the will to make it happen.

    Hugs and Love to YOU, My Friend!

    PRAYER FOR FRIENDS

    Prayer for Friendship

    You have blessed us, O God,

    with the gift of friendship,

    the bonding of persons

    in a circle of love.

    We thank you for such a blessing:

    for friends who love us,

    who share our sorrows,

    who laugh with us in celebration,

    who bear our pain,

    who need us as we need them,

    who weep as we weep,

    who hold us when words fail,

    and who give us the freedom

    to be ourselves.

    Bless our friends with health,

    wholeness, life, and love.

    Amen.
