Are y'all okay down there. We've been hearing some real horror stories about your area, the worst of which there are possibly thousands killed in New Orleans, the Mayor said.

Good luck and God bless you and yours.

A friend of ours, Dennis Pitts, lives down there on the GC in Alabama and we haven't heard from him in a few days.

As far as I know, there are no deaths in Alabama due to the storm. Most of the people in low areas know to get OUT! Those who didn't were rescued at the last minute at great expense.

Many lost their homes. They say my grandmothers house had water to the roof (in Bayou La Batre). It has had 5-6 foot of water in it before and it is about 4 feet above ground. No one was living in the old home.

We are fine here, just downed trees, and as of about 30 minutes ago, we have power. We feel very fortunate. There are many that are still without power.

There are still problems with the phone system, but it is intermittent. Keep trying to reach your friend. He just may not have returned home yet.

That's good news. We did hear of two deaths in Alabama but no names. Haven't heard from Dennis, yet, but from what you say, things are looking good that we will.

Also, he works in one of the TX radio stations and said that his family was "headed for high ground at the station." As you said, maybe he just isn't back home yet and possibly his electric or phones are out. (????)

Glad you and yours are alright.
