I can't believe how fast this is growing. I have had lots more blooms and tried to cross it with Amethyst (spell?) with no luck.

Anyway, it is fun to watch it grow. I sure hope it does not fall off before ripening.

The red passiflora has popped up in the ditch. I tried to dig some up to move it, but the root is huge and would require an ax to sever it.

I have others that I rooted from cuttings, so if the only ones that come up are from these huge roots, they will be mowed. It's too much work to remove the dead vines from my antique roses.

Live and learn! This time, the red one will be planted where it will have lots of space.

My Passiflora Amethyst that popped up from the ground has a 1 inch long fruit on it. It is more elongated.

Gee! I sure hope they both stay on the vine long enough to ripen. The Amethyst is a fragile vine - nothing like the red one.

Still... It just goes to show you that it can be done!

I'll try to take a picture of it tomorrow. The sun was almost down when I spotted it.

Again, another beauty that I am in awe of how easily it grows there. I almost bought one for Mom (in Florida) from a gal in Oregon. But I ended up buying her 2 orchid plants instead.
I honestly did not know passiflora 'came in' red as well !

Yesterday...

Honest to goodness... This fruit was so light that I thought that it was going to be empty and disappoint me.

But, it didn't! I have seeds! Not a lot, but I have seeds!

This one turned yellow instead of orange. It was oblong instead of oval.

And unfortunately, the fruit was empty. There were no seeds in this one....

And this was truly a surpise...

I was pruning back these dreaded shrubs that pop up where they are not wanted, and when I looked up to see what next to prune, I saw them. There are at least a dozen, and they are not on the mother plant. They are on another that popped up.

I picked the two ripest ones, the ones that were orange. When I touched them, they caved in with the pressure of my fingers and pulled from the vine easily.

Since there are so many, I tasted one of the little fruits. Wow! I sure hope it is not poisoness, but I can tell you that the pulp is delicious and the seed crunched in my mouth sort of like strawberry seeds.

OMG!

I just found 7 more fruit, and even though several are ripe enough to pick, they are far to high for me to reach. They have climbed up into one of my confederate roses.

After this last week of school, I plan to cut back that confederate rose and attempt to move it to another location. Perhaps, then I can retrieve the ones that are ripe.

I desperately need to propagate the passiflora vines that are under the porch and move them to a fence or something.

Gotta love them, though! The blooms are so pretty!!!!!!!!!!
