    Stubby tulips

I guess I just have the little 'garden' of horrors...first the spindly hyacinths and now...these are high dollar(but on end of season sale) tulip bulbs purchased loose in early January and promptly planted. I used liberal amounts of bone meal. I think they have had enough water. And yet, the blooms are barely an inch from the ground and these two types are suppposed to be 8 and 18 inches tall. Any ideas on what has caused this ?

    Late planting.

They should bloom at the right hight next year.
