Question Strawberry's - when to uncover

    Hi folks,

I planted strawberries last year and have them covered in straw for winter time. When is it OK to uncover them? Around the last frost date? (mid-late May here in OH).

This is my first go-around with strawberries aside from having them last year when I planted them.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Strawberries are a BIG Business Here

There are some tips for overwintering in the following article:

    http://www.aces.edu/pubs/docs/A/ANR-0633/

The article tells you at what temperatures the strawberry plants will survive and lots of other tips. The variety also makes a difference.

It is often in the news that they use water sprinklers to protect the strawberry plants on freezing nights.

Visit http://www.aces.edu and do a search for 'strawberry production' and you will find more articles.

In fact, you may want to try a search for 'strawberry freeze frost protection' and 'strawberry production' on the above web site as well as www.google.com .

    Hope that helps!
