Well, not really...

But since Tropical Storm Fay was forecasted to destroy these precious blooms, I decided to cut them and bring them inside to admire.

There was only one red spider lily, but lots of crinums. It's my first time to try to keep these in a vase. And WOW!!! The frangrance of the crinum blooms is beautiful and strong. It's strange... I can never smell them outside, but inside, they filled my bedroom with a strong, but wonderful scent.

Thankfully, the storm turned north just hours before the time to hit here! Still, I won't regret cutting these and bringing them inside.

First the "Spider Lily" is Lycoris Radiata and also known as a "Hurricane Lily".

The Crinum is Crinum digweedii and I would bet it is "Nassau" as the plain digweedii is just like this but very faided on the purple stripe and not as wide.
I DO NOT have this one though I do have the faded digweedii (plain).

When my Queen Emma bloomed I had people from 2 houses away come to see what they were smelling but the wind was only about 5 mph those days which is like no wind for us.

John,

The sun seems to fade the pink stripe. The newly opened ones that you see are blooming with low light, mostly fluorescent and indirect at that.

Yes! Come to think of it, there is a good reason for the spider lily to be called a Hurricane lily. They always bloom during the busiest part of the hurricane season.

I think it is Digweedii, but I could send you one to compare if you wish. Is Digweedii fragrant?

I'll have to see if I can find the outdoor pics ...

Almost ALL Crinums are frangrant and I have one (can't remember which) that smells like crushed lemon.
I will gladly take one off your hands but, do not send till October.
