Need a location for some of my roses that are ready for the ground ... will they do well in a daylily bed? Bed is about 15-20 ft long and is solid daylilies at present but there is enough space for roses if they will work together. Some of the daylilies are tall ones and roses are still fairly small.
Thanks in advance ..
Jim
Jim,
I don't do roses, but have lots of daylilies. Daylilies are very competitive, and have a dense root system. Roses need lots of breathing room, and the root system doesn't compete well with other plants. Every few years daylilies need to be disturbed and divided, roses don't like that.
So, even if the plants look good together, you may be putting the rose in jeopardy unless you have a fairly large reserved space for the rose. Personally I wouldn't do it.

Sorry, Jim, but I tend to agree with Tom. Unless you can space them far enough apart, dividing the lilies without disturbing the roots of the roses may become too difficult.
Have FUN, Jim! Remember when I said you would one day want to buy some farm land? Now that you have gotten your feet wet with propagating, you and the wife will be wanting that more and more.
Good Luck, Jim!

Don't need "some farm land" ... need a "STATE" ... u got me into this Ann ..... find me some room. :) May have to make raised beds ... on the roof!
Having a lot of fun but if I had more room .. this could become a lot of work.
