Absurd Pruning

I don't have a photo...yet.
My neighbor cut all of the lower branches off of a ...blue spruce.
Oh my ! :eek: The lower branches had some browned needles and some branches didn't look good but overall it wasn't bad. Now, it looks rather silly as it is very very tall.
I know people cut lower branches off of pines and that is borderline OK but this is like a Christmas tree with no lower branches. :D :eek:

Oh! NO!!!!

I love Blue Spruce. It doesn't survive this far south, but I guarantee you that if it did, I would have many.

I cannot imagine the lower limbs being trimmed. Such a shame...

At a gardening seminar I recently went to, I was told to never prune the lower branches of spruces as they are designed to hold the upper tree branches up and shed the snow. apparently the sagging limbs are a structural necessity for the tree, and pruning them will actually shorten the life of a spruce....aw
