Purchased 4 mini roses ... placed in ground and all have developed yellow leaves on bottom of the plant. Any idea what is going on. Transplant shock? Do I worry about it ... anything I can do? Not over watering .. not underwatering.

Dr Jerry Parsons, Texas A&M and Milbergers Nursery here in San ANtonio as a group operate a web site that is the largest and highest hit per month horticultural website in the world. I asked your question at www.plantanswers.com for you. Will be interesting to see what they have to say. I did a search of their website and couldn't find anything.

I know that they are one of the best Schools in the nation but I have for years made jokes about them .... and when I saw ur reference ... couldn't help but laugh.
It will be interesting to see if they come up with anything.... thanks for asking Gary.
This is the second year on most of our garden and it is really going well .... they say it gets even better the third years ... have to go some to beat this year.
Thanks again,
Jim

They will come up with the information. They run the Texas Master Gardener program and I doubt this is the first time this question has been asked.

You are getting really hooked, aren't you Jim?
Like Bob, I also leave my miniature roses in pots. I do usually upgrade them to at least one size larger than the pots they come in. It is not unusual for find that 3 have been planted in each pot when you get them.
One year, I left one outside and it overwintered fine, but that was an oversite on my part, and I am not sure if I would take the chance again on purpose.
They make wonderful houseplants in the winter.
If I should find out otherwise, Jim, I will be sure to let you know.
I wouldn't worry about the few leaves turning yellow. They would have probably done that if you left them in the pots and moved them out of their normal environment. Do remove the yellowed leaves and discard of them. Keep them moist, and don't forget to fertilize.
Remember, all roses need good air circulation.
Good Luck, Jim, and let me know how they do...
