Daffodils

I received this email (yes, I get lots of those), and I am not sure how to answer it.

I have always started Daffodils in the ground...

Any suggestions?

My first reaction was 'daffodils ..in water' ?! Then, I did a quick internet search which verified that that was a proper reaction BUT, if paperwhites can be technically considered 'daffodils', we can pursue that thought. Here is a link with, thank the lord, a photo !

In addition, hyacinths can be forced in a similar manner.
