I know it isn't fair to show this picture since this plant is native to Texas where it requires dry, sunny, hot conditions, but I have been "blown away" by the blooming on it - all summer long, regardless of weather. What a show off it is. This is the Desert Willow - a small gangly tree that takes the heat and dryness and rewards us for the abuse!!! I think I have taken more pictures of this plant in bloom than any other plant in my yard.

Bob, That is sure a beautiful bloom. How tall does it get in it's natural habitat?

You can learn more about it by Googling "Chilopsis linearis". It grows to over 20 ft. tall and wide, is very loose and open (not a shade tree) and as I recently found out, is susceptible to breakage in high winds - but grows back fast. It blooms for me non-stop between April and October here in Central Texas where conditions are ideal for it - full strong sun and dry, alkaline soil.
