Spring is sprung .. at least for today ... seems almost everything survived the winter .. Old garden Rose cuttings are fine (ended up with 13 different ones) ... everything is up and getting ready to bloom. Yard is looking good ... Guess all that work last year is paying off.

Having a great time in the yard ... hope u all are as well. Picked up 3 nice mini roses tonight at Wal Mart .. hidden behind other stuff and only $2.97 each .. can't beat that price ... well I can but people frown on u taking them during daylight hours.

Humming Birds are back .. butterflies are too ... this is a great time of year.

Going tomorrow to a little nursery who only sells things that grows well in this part of Texas .... don't need anything but always end up bringing stuff home .. she has some great plants and she is fun to be with. Gave me almost as much stuff last year as we bought. It was "here .. try this and tell me how u like it".

I am rambling but got the fever again .. seems to happen every spring and think it may even be getting worse.

Happy Gardening,

Jim

Hey, Jim!

It is so nice to see that you finally woke up from your winter's nap. I am glad to hear your rose cuttings are doing so well. Now, that you have gotten all that practice, you will be looking to buy some farm land, a place in the country for weekend retreats, won't you?

Most of my old roses are full of buds, and the last few days, the buds are starting to open. In another week or so, my back fence should be full of color. And I haven't ferilized them yet. It seems that they do not need near the care and fuss that hybrid teas require. The blooms may be smaller, but the masses of blooms more than make up for the difference.

Enjoy, Jim! And thanks for being a Friend...

My roses and I am not a Rosarian by any means, are blooming like crazy. I have two of my friends from childhood - Climbing Blaze which have one fence in bright cherry red color. Another couple of climbing yellow roses which are blooming, although not as much as the blaze. Two of Arlene's roses - variety "Arlene Francis" whose buds should pop today, and our yellow Lady Banksia is blooming to.

An Amarylis I traded for with Ann has incredible red and white blossoms opening up.

The asparagus patch has been harvested enough and it is going vegetative now to replenish itself. The tomatoes have been in for better than 10 days and have already set tomatoes.

The pears and peaches have marble sized fruit, but alas no plums as they were too far along in the bloom back in march when we had the hard freeze (9 degrees).

Pink Lemonade honeysuckle and Madame ??? Trumpet vine are blooming to the delight of the hummingbirds. Even our purple martins have returned - although pretty late this year - must have been the cold.

YUP, it appears spring is here.

I am no Rosarian either .. I have no idea what the names of my Old Roses are. I know that when I saw them .. I liked them and they were "available". Little "Ol Rose Rustler" in me was very active last year ... sure learned a lot ... thanks to Ann ... Bob and the rest of you.

Sounds like the rest of your yard is doing great ... ours is just now budding out. Our Daylily bed is just about ready to start and am looking forward to that..... lot of horse trading went into filling up that bed.

Good to be back Ann .... and good to get my garage back .. amazing what all I have found since we got the plants out.

Heading to the nursery ..... armed with an empty van ... and money ... well ... a little money and an empty van.
