Confused Iris

I did a double take today when I saw a lone iris scape with multiple buds on it ! It's right next to the gargage door and I've been working outside for the past 4 days and I just today saw it !
I don't know 'who' it is. I thought maybe a rebloomer but that would be a neat trick beacuse I haven't seen any of my 2 rebloomers bloom the first time. Long story--I didn't take all my iris-that's the only thing I regret about the plant moving. Not all bloomed this spring and I really don't know who I've got.
BUT, what a funny sight. AND the scape is really quite hefty-- much wider than I see them normally.
I think I'll name it 'Last Horrah'. :D

again...highs in the 30's Wednesday and Thursday , so it's name after that will be 'Toast'. :D

Cathy, Maybe you should cut it and bring it in. Maybe it will bloom.
Toast would be too warm a name. Maybe Icee Slush would be better.

Sue- I just now cut it and brought it in. I put it downstairs where it is theoretically cooler and not in direct sun. It has some growing to do so I am not expecting much. If it poops out, I might dissect it to see what color it would have been. I think it's one of my white with very pale blue caste to it but the stem is so thick it just doesn't sync up with any one I've seen bloom.

I think that is SO neat!

I used to cut gladiolus blooms a lot before they actually opened, just so that I could have pretty flowers in the house. The cats love them so much, so I stopped doing that.

You just reminded me that I need to start some more Gladiolius in the spring so that I can have flowers on my desk.

Most iris do not do well here, not in the ground anyway. I have seen such gorgeous displays of huge clumps in the north. Green with envy, like Rebecca says.

I went down to the basement tonight and found...the iris in full bloom ! On December 6th !
It was not one that had bloomed in spring. It was white with yellow beards AND very very fragrant ! What a treat !
I figured out that it is Glowing Seraphim. The interesting part about GS is that it is a rebloomer ! But , since it didn't bloom in spring, I'd say it's the proverbial 'late bloomer' ! :D

Oh girl ! I was up at 5:15 am yesterday, home at 9 pm and to bed at 11:45 PM, up at 5:15 am today, home at 8 pm and to bed at we'll see, gotta be up at 5:15 tomorrow.....
Won't get a pic of this one--sorry :( it's a little droopy anyway.
If the other bud opens though, I'll get a pic ! :)

Just in case I miss the peak photo of Glowing Seraphim's second bloom(I think it will bloom tomorrow but have to go to a work holiday dinner), here is exactly what it looks like. Funny, I wondered about the name and read that a seraphim is an angel with 6 wings emanating from its head. Some of these hybridizers are pretty intellectual with those names.
What you cannot experience is the wonderful fragrance --just wonderful like spring time.
Once I identify all my iris I will be happy to share.

That is beautiful! Iris are difficult to grow here. I do hope you will share lots and lots of pictures.

Somehow, when I look at that picture, I can almost smell the fragrance...

Cathy, How lucky you are to have an Iris in bloom this time of year. The iris is Tn.'s state flower and I love them. The white is just right for the season. Prettier that a poinsettia for sure.
