What is everyone using for plant tags?? Obviously we have to use something. Ann has used pieces of venetian blinds - a good thing to look for a garage sales from now on.
If they were inexpensive enough, would anyone be interested in buying the really nice ones like you see used by the retail nurseries that have a picture of the plant, your nursery name, planting instructions, zones etc. What would inexpensive enough be if they could be made??
Also does anyone know a souorce for the kind of tag that just wraps around a branch and slips through itself?

MacKenzie Nursery Supply has dot matrix computer wrap-around labels (also, pot style labels). Made of weatherproof .014 vinyl with computer track holes to allow printing on dot matrix style printers. 1/2" x 7 inch labels are $20 /1000. They sell software that prints the type of info you see on these tags at local nurseries a bit pricy $120. --but a simple label program should work. I'm saving my old dot matrix printer & may give it a try!

I order mine from BWI plastic sticks I believe there 5 inches long by 5/8 wide they average out to be 2 cents each .the lable ones with picture cost 3 cents each I have a stamp made for 5 bucks and stamp my own or use a oil pencil. I mainly sell vegatable plants the elder people love them because there a lot bigger print I have the catolog at work for the lable ,picture ones will post it tomorrrow if no one does
I cut up old plastic jugs ,washing powders,2 liter bottles ect. for just marking my stuff for my own use,Some use popsickle sticks the bigger ones
Oh I forgot to mention I Know a nursery that uses the matrix printer He claim you had to use there ink for the tags to take he told me he had to buy 6 cartriges the miniun and that they would only last 6 months so I would check into this with the saleman or maybe someone else know more about this printer

If you want I can check with this small office supply here in town . I know I just picked up my wifes stamp It says Precious Memories on it It was 4 dollars and some cents. She also had one from Wall mart that was the stamp and came with a bunch of letters you make your own stamp pretty neat. I had a computer shop make mine its just the rubber itself and glued it to a wooden board 5/8 by 3/4 by 3 inches long .I than took a piece of ply wood and place my tag on it hot glue to more peice on each side of it and on the one end I leave the the pionted end open so I can pull the tags out and load up the jig very fast and easy each tag gets stamp in the center and right at the end. Would like to make a jig that hold 48 and in a shape of a round table that roatates around place on kitchen table ,than two people could get after it one could load and unload while the other stamps and rotates the round table.
I cane check here in Jasper ,Texas for you if you want email me private You could have them mail to you probaly in less than a weeks time

Hi,
I grabbed on to Ann's idea of the venetian blinds. They do work well and hold up. I thought when it comes time, I would order from Mastertag. They do have really good prices and they're hometown people, about 14 miles away. Just my 2 cents worth.
The last time I was in goodwill they had several blinds in there for a buck each.If you could tack them to a couple of 2 by 2 srape boards you could use them for shade above your benches
I use tongue depressors. Sounds corny but true. My neighbor is a pediatrician and happened to be talking with me about the subject. I asked what he thought and he walked in and got a bag of 100. He gave them to me and came back the next day with about 1000 more. All have been used. They are about 8" long and the permanent marker works fine on them. They've lasted 6 months so far with no fading. Not as professional as some with pictures but they do the job.
