Haven't checked in with Ann yet, but we made it through the coldest night this year (16 degrees F) with only the loss of the plum crop on 1 plum tree. The greenhouse never went below 40 degrees, but we burned a lot of propane. As things thaw I'll find out whether any hose bibs had a problem.
How did you do last night Ann?? We said prayers for you and your plants.

16 degrees is cold? They just closed Cleveland, Ohio the whole town! snow coming down so hard you can't see up there. we are a little south and have about 1" of white stuff, not enough to plow yet. I want to move to South Carolina!

Yes Jim, 16 degrees is COLD. I didn't move to south Texas for cold weather. My dad is from Wausau Wisconsin and my mom is from Plymouth PA. I spent 24 1/2 years in the Navy and 2 years of that was with Naval Support Force Antarctica - 5 months a year on the Ice at McMurdo Station and South Pole. YES I know what cold is and if you like it - PLEASE keep it up there in the North and let us live peacefully here in the South. All we need are sufficient hours of chill to have the fruit trees bear.

They say that there was a low of 25 yesterday morning, but this morning was a bummer. The temps broke a record at 20 degrees. Since it is always about 2 degrees colder here, that means my flowers are looking mighty sad this morning. This certainly is a change from highs in the 70's on Monday.
The daffodils have been blooming, but the blooms are looking mighty sad today. Canna leaves, amaryllis leaves, agapanthus, you name it, are wilted to the ground. Simply melted. There was no way to cover up everything, so they will have to start all over again.
The blossoms are still hanging on to the pear tree and yellow jasmine, so I will have to wait to see how much damage they have. When it warms up a bit, I will venture out to checking on my day lilies and fig tree.
I'm ready for spring fever again!

Ann,
The front which was supposed to come in this afternoon late came in about 2 AM and by 7 when I woke up it was 32 degrees. Hurried out to the Greenhouse and fired off the propane heater. Within an hour it was down to 26 outside. Not sure what this is going to do to tonights and tommorow nights temps, but will keep you posted.

I took all of the plastic off of the sagos last Friday so they could get some sun and warm up a little. Then Saturday evening a neighbor said watch the weather, another front coming. Getting down to 22 tonight. Goodness gracious. Worked from 5 pm to 10 pm putting the plastic back on 550 sagos. Got it done.
Glad to hear everyone is weathering well. My crepe myrtles lost all of the new green growth. The plum blooms are gone, the blueberry blooms are gone, the peach tree blooms are gone. The satsumas look great.
I thought there was only 19 more days until spring. Would somebody please tell Mother Nature enough already???????
Good luck to all,

www.accuweather.com has you at 26 on Monday night senor. They as you found out the other night are pretty darn accurate on their temps. Its the weather I always choose and their doppler radars are the best to see storms coming.

25 here in south Texas tonight and 22 degrees at Ann's in Mobile.
Good luck and keep the plants warm tonight. We went to 9 last night and just touched the tips of some tomato plants. They will live through that. Many retail nurseries have lost almost all of their stock.

Hi All,
Well in crazy MI. the weather is terrible, terrible, cold and SNOW! We did miss out on ALOT of snow (12-24"), but then the last 2 days we wound up with 18"-20". And now they're saying it's going to be in the 40's on thursday! I never hold my breath for an early spring here (would have died long ago!), but I know once my b-day rolls around (same as you Bob) 4-4, that it just keeps getting better and better.
I am still doing hardwood cuttings. and dug up a whole row of lilacs out of the middle of my biggest bed.:( The ground was only froze here for a total of about 3 weeks.
Good Luck to All!
