sorry not my photos but same thing. I thought the leaves looked strawberryish when I first saw it late last fall. Currently, they have white flowers just like the photo. I have no idea where they came from or if they were intentionally planted. I do know that it is intertwined with some awful English ivy. Maybe it came with the ivy originally. It will be interesting to see if berries form and who gets to them first(me or the wildlife) !

Cathy,
They grow wild here, too. I tasted a few, but they are so tiny and not enough of them, so I decided to leave them for the birds to eat.
Speaking of birds and vines, my brother found a bird's nest with 3 eggs in it while he was helping me with the back fence. Thank goodness, he spotted it before pulling out the tree branches. He relocated it about 15 feet to the grape arbor.
He was so excited! When he was carefully placing the bird nest into a safe place, he spotted a dove that was sitting in a nearby nest. When he was leaving, I promised him to try to get some pictures. Unfortunately, every time Hunter and I went out with the camera, the dove flew away.
I sure hope the Mama of those 3 eggs finds them. Makes me wish that I had an incubator. These tiny critters bring out the soft heart in me.
I believe you are talking about two separate plants.
The true wild strawberry has a wonderful, strong, strawberry taste. It has white flowers, and small fruit shaped like a real strawberry:

The false, or Indian strawberry looks similar to the other one, but the fruit is more round, and has dry seeds on the outside and is more or less tasteless. The flowers are yellow. The plant can be invasive.

By the way, they are both edible,
