Just checked Accuweather.com and there go the early peaches and some of my plums. The coldest night of the winter is predicted for Wednesday night in South Texas with a low of 14. I guess I'll burn a bit of propane in the greenhouse Tuesday night.
14 degrees??? Oh man, I better get the tarps back out. Just when we thought it was over.
Yep I checked our forecaster, he said 25.
We just thought there was only 24 days left until spring.
Good luck everyone and stay warm!!

I guess someone's telling us something--not spring quite yet.
The toughest part is when there's some growth starting to happen, and the real cold hits again. These frosts wouldn't hurt around new years, but now? We were getting our hopes up for a real early start to the growing season!
Gary/Arlene--are the peaches, etc. already blooming there in Tx? I know the pollen can survive several degrees of frost, but that sounds like it would wipe out any bloom that's happening right now.
Heading to Disneyland (Anaheim) with the "gang" next week, wouldn't mind a bit of beach weather down there--cold Canadian Glen

One of my plums is in full loomand they are goners. A friend down the hill from me has early peaches in full bloom and she will lose about 10 trees worth of fruit.
Ann has the real problem as she is getting 2 nights of freezing temps vs one here and she has been putting new perennials out to harden off. Lets all pray she is spared the real cod weather.

Yes, indeed. This one is going to hurt. My big pear tree is in full bloom. No pears from that tree this year.
The part that hurts the most is the yellow Carolina Jasmine. It is loaded with blooms and lots more buds to open. It's gorgeous, and I will miss the blooms if they all fall off.
We are in the 70's this afternoon, but expecting lower 20's Wednesday and Thursday which will be record lows. I will cover what I can, protect what I can, put the kerosene heater in the greenhouse and hope for the best.
Bummer!
