Hi All, Found a free webpage host. Called "Local Harvest" for farmers-real easy to set up. Take a look at mine; http://www.localharvest.org/listing.jsp?id=3937 if you like it or want to try your own click on "farmers only". Only takes a few minutes. Well worth it! Daryll

Daryll -- please tell me more about the self serve farm stand. I have been thinking about trying to do this with herb plants. Our house is back from and out of sight of the road. Stand would be at the road. Grandkids will help with it but they don't want to be "stuck" there all day? Does it work? Mechanics? and of course do you get ripped off? Thanks. Jim Lang Ohio zone 5.

Hi Jim-Well let me say that we are isolated. 8 miles from the nearest paved road, there are about 200 families that live in this area-5 to 20 acre lots. Our farm is on a dead end dirt road with a goat farm and a daylilly farm on down the road from us. I put a small sign on the main dirt road that says "farm fresh eggs-$1.00 a dozen-self serve" and "herb plants & veggies available in season". I get quite a bit of traffic from the goat farm and daylilly farm as well as the local people going to and from work. I built a small covered stand right outside our gate with a small fridge for the eggs and a clear plastic gallon jug for the money. I try to price everthing so it is one dollar (3 tomatoes for $1.00 etc.). So far I've never been ripped off. I take the money out at night and I try to never have more than $30.00 or $40.00 worth of produce in the stand at one time. My greenhouse and several of the gardens are within sight of the farmstand and people just can't resist buying something for a $1.00. If I'm home I leave the gate open and welcome people to take a look at what else we have for sale. (trees, shrubs, chickens ,quail). I also do small engine repairs- I get a lot of people for lawnmower and tiller repairs that end up with eggs and produce. Well I hope I explained it well enough for you,any more questions feel free to ask. Daryll

I think that might work for me. We are in an area with Amish and farmers. A little busier road it sounds like, but I am going to give it a try. Thanks. Jim Lang

Darly I like your web site better than the first one .Boy you got to be a busy man. The people buying the stevia plants are most of them Diabetics. The seeds you sent when they flower I can just save the flower heads for the seeds and when is it best to save these.

Jim I really enjoy the amish people in my home town in Iowa we had a group of about 200 that raise everything and each house hold had there own business from clock repair, bootrepair ,saddles, bakery, candy store, carpenter ,and iron works. I wish I had some by us in texas I would love to have them do some work for me at times

Good morning Gene, From the web page it looks like a lot of work, but most of the stuff is plant, mulch with straw, turn on the sprinklers once a week if it doesn't rain. I just planted the leyland cyprus cuttings two weeks ago. As for the stevia; the same plant will have flowers in different stages all through it's life-I just clip off the mature flowerheads as they turn brown and keep them in paper bags. I woke up to 19 degree temps this morning-so much for sunny Florida weather. Well time to go out in the cold and see what survived :>( Daryll
