I believe that Amaryllis must be one of the best gifts for someone that is stuck inside all winter long. My mother keeps calling me to report the growth of her new 'Red Peacock'.
Today, she announced, "I can see red!" Again, she explained that the amaryllis that she has in the ground are not showing any leaves, and I explained, "It's okay, Mama. Give them time. They will spout leaves and bloom later when the weather is warmer."
I do believe she is hooked, and I need to buy her a new one every year so that she can enjoy them inside.
Mama's surgery appears to be a success, and I surely hope that it does mean that she can walk around the gardens without so much effort and pain.
They are amazing plants. It's no wonder that I am an Amaryllis freak. I adore bulbs!
