After a long 3 year wait - I went out to the asparagus garden and found my first 6 stalks of beautiful purple asparagus ready for cutting. We planted the asparagus crowns 3 years ago and after the waiting (seems like forever) and 12 bales of straw mulch and the addition of over a ton of composted steer poop (heifer dust) over the 3 years they are ready this year for eating. Going to have them as part of lunch. Gary and I have earned them and this year we are going to enjoy them. Happy Spring everybody!!!!!!!!

My grandmother used to grow asparagus, and she had quite a patch. Too bad that I didn't learn her secrets. I was a bit young then.

Keep us posted as to how many you are able to harvest this year. 3 years sounds like a long time, but if you like fresh asparagus, it is well worth it.
