Canna Lily

Was at a yard sale yesterday and they were virtually giving Canna bulbs (roots) away for free. Got a grocery bag of yellow ones for 25 cents.

How are they supposed to be planted and is there anything I need to do to them before I plant them??

I should have taken some pictures before giving all my red ones to my neighbor. I have some dwarf ones that I planted this past year and hope to get pictures of propagating by division/cutting and seed.

Basically, you need to plant them about 3-5 inches deep according to the bulb/tuber and plant size. Dwarf varieties do not need to be planted as deep as the taller varieties. You can divide them by cutting them into sections, making sure that each section has an 'eye', ie. future or past stem growth similar to Iris division/cutting

Cannas spread quite rapidly with or without division, so be sure to give them plenty of space to spread their feet.
