I have fallen for their beauty, too. I planted my first one, the variegated too close to a tree which eventually grew and provided too much shade. So, it doesn't bloom much. Still, it has gotten large. I took a cutting from it, and it rooted nicely, so that one will be planted in full sun.
I have wine and roses, and I love the foliage, but it hasn't done as well as some of them. I think that perhaps that is because it was almost dead when I bought it for little or nothing. Still, it has survived, and will get better, I am sure.
They are all very pretty, and the blooms in the spring are a welcome treat. The foliage is nice the rest of the season.
I vote for weigela, also!

One of my favourite shrubs. Variegated, Wine and roses, Red prince. By the way I dont see much difference between Wine and Roses and Java red Weigiela. By the way the Wine and roses that I sell are purchased, Their patented so I dont propigate these guys.
My favourite one of them all is the Variegated weigiela. I like the combination of the pink and white flowers against the variegated foliage. My 2 cents. George.

Tony,
I have a very small wine and roses. It's been a struggle to keep it alive. But it leaved out this year so maybe it will get some growth.
I also have red prince.

Thanks Shepp,
The circle garden is out front and does get sun all day until about 4. Have had it in the shade for a few weeks though.
Oh it's another HOT one here, 92!!! EEEKK! We've already had more 90 + days then we usually get all summer. And no *&&%$F%$% Rain!!!! Well should'nt say no it has rained a couple times. :(

Two of my weigelas are in bloom again. There aren't very many blooms, just enough to wink and me and say "I'm still here!"
Here are the blooms of my dwarf, hot pink Crepe Myrtle. BTW, this one is not so dwarf anymore. It is almost as tall as I am.

The lavender one is almost up to my waist now. It is just now beginning to bloom. The blooms are pretty, but not as dense as the pink one.

Vicki,
The dwarfs (these came from Park Seed) grow very quickly from seed, and they definitely don't seem to be forming trees, but WOW! Do they bloom and within months of being sown. I have a dwarf white one also, but it was damaged pretty badly by Ivan, but I think next year it will be pretty.
It's fun to have something so pretty blooming in the heat of the summer!
Buddleia's are also showing themselves. I definitely need to take cuttings from both. Besides, they need to be pruned.
Rose of Sharons hare blooming quite well, also. And I have a new flush of blooms on the pink Brugsmansia. I don't think Daturas stop blooming until frost, but they tend to not bloom as much if you let them go to seed (which I am doing).
