Remember when I said that I found seed pods on my Dutchman's Pipe but missed seeing the blooms?

Well, now I know why.... They are small blooms, and I don't know why I was expecting these monstrous sized blooms. Also, it is hidden under the foliage, but I spotted one about to open.

Here is a peak...

I suspect it will open tomorrow, but if that is the case, I will not be able to take a picture due to the weather! Unless.... Unless... This T.S. Arlene decides to take a jog to the east so that we will be on the west side of it.

Still, it is nice to know what to look for now, and hopefully, there will be more blooms. I overwintered this vine in the enclosed porch and it did just fine! The foliage is very pretty and like the passiflora, it is easy to distinguish it from others by the shape of the leaves.

Neat plant...

Ann. I was thinking about you when I first saw Arlene coming yur way. I pray you have no damage.
I sure hope you can get a picture of the duthman's pipe. I always wanted one but am not sure they are too hardy here.
Keep us informed on Arlene.

They say that they are hardy to zone 8a. I may or may not take a chance with them this winter.

Here is what the bloom looks like today.

The bloom is HUGE! It's about as big as the palm of my hand, and it is gorgeous!

Isn't it unique? Very odd color and marking. I love it.
Thanks for letting us see it progress.

That photo should be sent to fabric manufacturers. The fabric would be great for quilting projects, or as a scarf. My imagination knows no limits!

Gee! Each and every bloom is gorgeous. The vine itself does not take much room if someone wants to overwinter it.

All I can say is that it blooms and blooms and blooms, and now it is setting seed pods. Bee pollinated, of course....

I found 3, but since I am letting this one twine around a smaller passion flower vne, and I like the effect.

Here is a picture of a couple of pods...

The strangest thing about these pods is that they open upside down and look like a parachusette that is facing the wrong way.

If anyone wants any seeds, please let me know. I had quite a few pods that ripened. Unfortunately, I am not sure how long they stay viable, but I suspect they will be fine to sow this spring.

Ann, I have always wanted to try one. THey are marginally hardy here but I have never seen one so They must not do well. I would like to try a few seeds if you have some to spare.

I would love to try grow some.
I have some other vines to trade you may like.
I grew the Purple Copea Mountain Glory Vine and the White one that are so pretty. I hope to get some seeds maybe before the cold kills them. I have made little tents around them to protect them and mulched bunches so maybe they will make it. I might even put some small xmas lights around them also which works sometimes.
I will grow them again, really pretty.
