Cross Vine

Bignonia capreolata

(syn. Doxantha capreolata)

A show stopper. Produces a huge mass of 2" red trumpets with orange throats in late spring with some blooms throughout summer. A dark green healthy and vigorous evergreen vine reaching 30'. Cannot ship to AZ

Light: Full to partial sun.

Size: 30'H

Zones: 6-9

Although this site lists it as hardy 6-9, I would be more than willing to plant it as I've seen it listed a hardy to zone 5.

You grow this don't you Ann?

Yep!

Or I should say that I did grow it. Since the hurricane, it has shown no sign of life.

Normally, it is starting it's show right about now. And normally, it keeps many leaves which turn burgandy over the winter. Then new leaves show up in the spring.

I scraped the main branch/stem, and there is green....

However, no other sign of life. We will see!

Finally, I found another tangerine colored cross vine. It's only in a gallon pot, and it will take some time to grow as huge as the one that I lost. But, gee, if I don't get started soon, it won't happen. Usually, I find the red ones in the store, but HD had the tangerine one (at least I hope it is labeled correctly) as well as the red one. I like the tangerine.

I have lots of seed from the tangerine, but no time to plant them, YET! I expect the time thing to get better, not worse.

BTW, this vine is not invasive like the campsis radicans is.

Ann,
I would love to try some of your crossvine seeds, if you have enough to share.

Vicki!

Send me a PM with your postal address. I love this vine, and I have no idea how long it takes to grow from seeds, but I assure you that once it starts growing, it is gorgeous.

I just really hate it that my huge one did not survive Ivan. Next time, I will make sure I have several started in pots just in case. I have truly missed the blooms this year.
