Ploidy????

Does anyone understand the 'ploidy' of Amaryllis?

I have many varieties, and I love them all. I enjoy growing them from cuttings as well as seed, but I suddenly realize that there is much more to learn about them.

I have tried to understand why I cannot get my 'Johnsonii' to develop seeds. I suspect it may have something to do with the 'ploidy', but there is so little information available.

Anyone have an technical Amaryllis book that they recommend?

I don't know of any books on Hippeastrums, but I do know they do come as both Diploids and Tetraploids.
