I got the itch after reading all the posts awhile ago. Went out and picked some eastern redbud seeds where I work. They seem to sprout everywhere here so I will just winter sow them outside in some flats. There is also a red leafed "winter pansy" redbud here. It has few seeds and I can find little info on them. Anyone know if they come true from seed?

Sue Sally,
I'm not sure about the'Winter pansy'.I've bought and sold a redbud call 'Forest Pansy',it is grafted.

William, It is Forest Pansy. I can't tell if it is grafted or not. I will try the seed anyway. It sure is a pretty tree.
What other trees are selling well for you?

Sue Sally and All,
I was selling a bunch of different kinds but have pulled back on them for 2005.I had river burch, several kinds of red maples, cleveland and bradford pear, kousa dogwood, white pine, magnolias and several others.I bought a lot of them bareroot and would pot up and sell in a couple years. The container trees I bought mostly came from Turner & son nursery in McMinnville,Tn,nice folks.
This year the only trees I'II fool with will be 8 or so cultivars of Japanese Maples.I sell them from 1gal. to 10gal. at this time.Thats what I'm trying to do now in my little spare time is potting up from1to3,3 to 7 and 7 to 10.
My main thing this year is expanding my Hydrangea stock and knowledge.Hopefully the hydranges will become my nitch ?I will continue to sell a few fillers when I work the open air markets.I get most of these from Mary's and Steve Martin in McMinnville,Tn.
I'm selling Hydrangeas to four small and medium size garden centers.I'm having trouble finding tags for some of the not so common Hyd's.Two of the g.centers will accept hand written tags and two of them wont.I can't afford a printer as small as I am and John Henry Co. you have to order 500 min of each tag.I would never use that many.
This summer I plan on starting propagating all my many shrubs so they will be ready to sell when I retire in two years. In other words I going back to the basics.Sand bed and the misting system.I had too many irons in the fire last year almost bite off more than I could chew.Anybody else ever do that?
All the trees sold good mostly in the spring. You just can't convence people fall was a better time to plant.
Thanks' William B.
