I give up...what are owl ears on a daylily ?

Hum guess they mean that it reminds them of the Horned Owl

Well, that led me on an internet search of real owl ears !

I think you are right and I think it all depends on the angle that you look at the DL's from--seems to be associated with ruffling. Check out Pink Hurricane on this page. You can also do an edit>find>owl ears on that same page and see some others with pix. I think when the outer perimeter of the petal juts out in a triangular shape it's an owl ear--like the horned owl you mentioned !

I think you are right and I think it all depends on the angle that you look at the DL's from--seems to be associated with ruffling. Check out Pink Hurricane on the linked page.(I also copied it here-see below). I think when the outer perimeter of the petal juts out in a triangular shape it's an owl ear--like the horned owl you mentioned ! See the 'triangles' at the 1 o'clock, 9 o'clock and 11 o'clock positions.
