Rebecca!

I have never seen a daylily like the polypetaled one... That is really pretty and looks so very delicate!

Thanks!

Beautiful! Looks like I would enjoy putting some of these daylilies in my flower beds. Presently I have tons of Stello O, cuz they bloom for a long time.

Where does one find good deals on these flowers? Usually I don't see a good variety around here.

'Good Deals' can be found at any of the 'mart' stores or home improvement stores' If you want good daylilies at reasonable prices, then you go on-line or to a local grower.

The American Hemerocallis Society has links for growers in your region. Try this link: http://www.daylilies.org/ahs/AHSsource.html#Region2

You can also check with the Region 2 local societies, as they can often tell you of a grwer in your area. Here's a link to the Region 2 Socoety page: http://www.daylilies.org/ahs/AHSreg2.html#Michigan

Of course, there are a couple of hybridizers/growers I'm rather partial to; Carol Natte's Great Lakes Daylilies: http://daylily.net/greatlakesdaylilies/
and Marietta's Daylilies, hybridizers John, Faye and Elizabeth Shooter: http://www.mariettagardens.com/Catalog/PageA1.htm

There are many really good sources for quality daylilies. Most of the oplder cultivars are very inexpensive. John Shooter has a very fine assortment of the older cultivars and a lot of their own introductions aren't really too expensive.

Hope this is healpful for you!

I have won some great auctions the last month or so on Ebay. And all the plants are doing very well! But I gotta tell ya, the daylilies I bought from Rebecca were the healthiest, largest and so on! Sorry Rebecca, had to give you a plug..lol.
Makes a big difference buying from a gardener that is more concerned with the health and well being of her plants than the almighty dollar...
Just my two cents as usual..lol.

My local Lowe's had the remainder of their big pots of daylilies on sale this week for $2.50 each! Check yours out and see what they have left!

Good Evening All,

Thought I'd get this thread back on track by posting an image of one of my newer cultivars. This is it's first bloom in my garden and I am hoping to see much improvement in it next season. A friend from Michigan sent this one to me along with several others in an attempt to bring my collection more up to date.

Hope you enjoy seeing it as much as I did getting to watch it open!

I checked on the websites you gave me, and Lordy, I never knew that daylilies could be so expensive. Guess I'll have to wait until I return to work!

I did find a few on ebay.......they haven't arrived yet, but I'm very anxious. Can't remember the names, but one is almost a black color, and both are rebloomers.

Most of garden plants have been given to me by friends, I've been lucky in keeping costs to a minimum.

My region here in Michigan was hit by a heavy rain storm yesterday. Everything was in need of a good watering. Hopefully, I'll have my rain barrels in place soon.

'Sweet Revenge' is new for me this year and was a wonderful surprise to see it blooming so nicely this morning. I am anxious to use this one in breeding, but it must wait until next year.

Rebecca ,
Hope you don't mind if I sneak in my new daylily that I traded for with another vender at the Farmers Market. It is Illini Jackpot. It is a little more burgundy than the picture shows.

I had a beautiful 10 bloom on my Casa Blanca but every time I take a picture it turns out a big white blur. Any tips on photographing white flowers? This is a Largon camera and this happens everytime I try to photograph a white flower.

Sue,

You have a very nice daylily, and one used quite a lot in hybridizing with good success. Check out this link

http://www.tinkersgardens.com/Daylily%20Database/advdlydb/search/results.asp

Also be sure to click on the work 'child' and see the list of registered offspring from this cv. Impressive. This link will also tell you all the 'ststs' on this plant, polodt, plant habit and it will also led you on to 'fertility data'

Try taking photos of your Casa Blanca when it is shaded, or at dusk, just don't use flash.

Good Evening All,

Have a look at what greeted me this morning. This is it's very first bloom in my garden and I was more than delighted! It was one of nearly a dozen plants a friend in Michigan sent to me this spring and the photos I had seen of it didn't really thrill me and after seeing what it really looks like I can honestly say that those images did not do it justice.

Enjoy!

Oh, Rebecca!

How beautiful! I love the pastel yellow....

Did I tell you that 'Island Forest' looks a lot like the hybridizer daylilies that I purchased? 'Island Forest' is a little more 'bagel' shaped, but the colors are very close.

How FUN! And, yes! I am learning that there are TOO MANY beautiful daylilies. It sure makes it hard to decide if you want to venture deeper into the daylily world, doesn't it?

NICE and so much FUN to LEARN!!!!

Thanks!

Ann,

Tell me about it! i'd bet I have over a thousand images of DL's I'd love to have!

I tried to get Prairie Moonlight to set a pod or two this season, but it just wasn't ready after having been divided this spring. I did, however, get it to set a pod on 'Hyperion'.

<center><a href="http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/view/Image.asp?s=cano&u=1766954&a=1351273&i=10843116"><img src=http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/view/exportImage.asp?s=cano&i=10843116&w=400&h=317></a>

'Hyperion'</center>

PM has a much l;arger bloom, but Hyperion is a much taller plant and bloom scape. PM also has rounded petal tips and the 'lip' has some ruffling to it. I think something could come from this cross. Both are noted as being fragrant, though I am not able to detect the subtle fragrance of daylilies. :( The pod is several weeks from harvest, but I am hoping for lots of seeds from it.

Hyperion is a very old cultivar, 1924 if I'm not mistaken, yet it is still widely grown because it developes into such a wonderful specimen plant and the clear yellow blooms are so refreshing!

I love the modern, fancy ones, but there is still a lot to be said about the golden oldies! Doesn't make deciding which ones to grow any easier though!
