I bought some wilt proof to help my plants survive shipping and it is working well for that. I thought I would spray my Clematis cuttings as I stuck them the other day now they look awful! brown where I sprayed, what did I do wrong?

Kathy,
I haven't found a plant that didn't love the stuff. Did you make sure to shake the bottle really well before using? I am using a spray bottle that is semi-clear, so I can tell if it is mixed well enough. The resin mixture tends to sink to the bottom, so you have to shake it really well before each use.
Also, I noticed that the longer the mixture (I use dilluted concentrate) sits, the stronger it gets (water evaporates), so every once in awhile I dillute it some with just a little water. Seems to me that since this is a resin based product, it might suffocate the leaves if it is too strong, so I don't take the chance. I would rather it be too weak, than too strong.
Let me know if this helps. Clematis is hard to grow here because of the heat, so I don't have any to try it on.

It is a new premixed bottle. Could be the shake thing -- I didn't.
Never was any good at reading the label -- A.D.D.
THe cuttings will probably make it there is still a little green left.

Directions on the bottle say to spray both sides of the leaves but Ann said to spray only one side .... on some other posting somewhere (can't remember where) .... they warned to spray both sides only on large heavy type leaves ...said it was to strong for the smaller leaves.
Don't know if that makes sense but am sticking to the "one side only" even on my mandevilla and they are still green.

I did try to only spray one side but clematis leaves curl and droop so it's hard to keep it on only one side. I don't know why I try to improve on something that is already working for me. I should do the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" thing. Maybe I'll keep the soil moist for shipping and cut flowers and do the rooting as always.
