Well ... I guess I didn't kill my rose cuttings ... they are sprouting. Like a lot of things this year ... this is a first .... and it sure feels good. Am more than just a little happy.

Even have one sprouting that I just stuck in the ground ... it must be a stubborn one.

Found another OGR today ... no disease ... blooming like crazy ... red tea .. with more thorns than u can imagaine ... had to hold old spent flower to keep from getting stuck.

Thanks Ann .... info on this site sure helps .. and pictures do too .. am a visual learner.

Jim,

Did you know that if you can master propagating roses, you can propagate anything? Roses have got to be among the most difficult plants to propagate. Camellia is another.

However, don't assume that new growth means roots. Give the cuttings 2-3 weeks longer, just to make sure good roots have formed. I have had some that produced new growth well in advance of roots, but experience tells me new growth means roots are either already there or on their way.

If you absolutely cannot wait to take a look, then take a peak and repot them in individual pots. If no roots are visible, then reapply rooting hormone, and repot. If the lower part of the stem is the slightest bit brown, cut off the brown part, being sure to leave the leaf node, reapply hormone and repot.

Keep us posted!

Can u leave the cuttings in the pot too long? I have 3-4 cuttings in each pot. If u can ... is there a way to tell when the "ideal" time to repot them occurs?

Jim,

Most likely, you will not leave them in the pot too long. Give them about 6-8 weeks. If you wait 3 months, you may have to separate the roots, but they will survive it.

Anxious, aren't you? Don't blame you. I am the same way.

Have FUN!
