This is a copy of a letter received by a friend of mine regarding the planned sterilization of the mail. She has a mail order nursery business and wanted to know hpw it would affect her. She could get nothing out of the post office so she wrote the company that has contracted to do the sterilizing. This was their answer.
At the high doses needed to sterilize mail, basically all living things will be killed. You can't treat seeds, bulbs, or live plants. Cut flowers may be OK as they are in the process of dying anyway. The electron beam system destroys DNA, this is how it kills bacteria. The DNA in your plant material will also be destroyed by the process.

Jim,

We all have to be aware of what is going on inside our country, and as long as we can keep control of the threat, we will WIN!

If they have to treat all mail in this manner, then we may have to without mail order for plants, which would be mighty sad because many of my favorite plants and seed have come from mail order.

However, we must protect the well being of our country, and that is of utmost importance, especially when it comes to protecting our children and our future.

My personal opinion is that this will be short lived, and we may have to modify our lifestyles for awhile, but we will soon begin to be able to resume a normal life.

I, personally, am extremely grateful to those men and women who are out there on the battle lines fighting for our freedom and safety!
