Does anyone know of a way to propagate the mandavilla vine?
Does the article on vine propagation apply to the mandavilla vine Ann ? I have some cutting from the vine but I just don't know what to do with them. The lady that gave them to me said she hasn't been able to root them...but wanted me to take the cutting and try....any info would be appreciated
thanks

Steve,
Follow the instructions for vine stem cuttings, and if you do not have wilt pruf (which does really work well), cut the outer half of the leaf off to reduce transpiration. Do not allow the soil to dry out.
I have tried rooting them in water, but guess what, either I am simply not good at this or something in my well water makes it not work.
One leaf node (without leaf) under the soil and one leaf node with leaves above the soil works great. You can get a lot of plants from a mandevilla before winter, but beware these plants are tropical and most often do not survive even our zone 8 winters, so I often take cuttings and pot them in the summer or fall and protect them during the winter.
You can see some pictures here:

Good Luck, Steve! For a Pro like you, this one should be a piece of cake...

P.S. I think the appropriate spelling is Mandevilla.

Thanks Ann
Well I don't know about being a pro but I do like to try very much.
I will go ahead and give it a shot ...the cutting were free and I already have some potting mix ready so.... I am going to get my dirt under my fingernails..LOL Maybe some of them will make it.
If not I will try earlier next year.
thanks again

Steve,
Just keep them warm, and they will love you. I didn't use mist, just put them under a pecan tree in the back yard, and they flourished. I did use wilt pruf on the upper part of the leaves.
They do not like too much sun, partial shade will do, but they love the heat.
Have FUN!

Ann, Steve,
After looking at the pictures .... buying the "wilt proof" and reading the posts ... I will be trying this on the 3 Mandevillas that I have. I have to move the trellis they are climbing on to enlarge a rose bed and sounds like a good time to take the cuttings.
My rose cuttings (from Rose Rustlers Exchange) are doing well and am going to need extra room in that bed.
Have a lot of friends that have seen the Mandevillas and want plants .. so may make take a lot of cuttings. My garage is beginning to fill and still have to bring in a lot of plants when the frost threatens.
Having fun,
Jim
