Potting soil disposal

Some of the rose cuttings that I have been trying to root .. turned black at the base and died. can this potting soil be put in the garden? didn't think I should use it to start new cuttings.

Jim,

If you followed my directions for the black spot, throw the dead rose cuttings in the garbage, then use the pots of soil for something other than roses. They should be fine.
