Hi, Everyone!

The hypertufa is something that I have wanted to try for a long time. I have lots of cactus, sedum and sempervivum that I have either collected over the years, and, yes, even grown from seed that I would like to put in decorative container, so when you get this process down pat, I would appreciate hearing all the details about tips and techniques to make it work.

Our Class today was primarily on propagation, and guess what, even I learned some. The instructor cut the amaryllis bulb into very tiny segments, and then cut each segment in half making sure to keep some of the basal portion of the bulb. He tells us that it only took two years for him to get a bloom from one of the new bulbs formed from this method. Sounds like I will be getting blooms sooner than I thought.

For tiny seed, I have always mixed the seed in sand in a salt shaker and sprinkled on top of the soil, but he used nutra-sweet and said that any inert material would work. I asked about corn starch (which is less expensive), and he said that should work.

We talked about growth retardant, and the studies being done on poinsettas at the research laboratory.

Then we visited the botanical gardens, and there is something called a fern companion that I must learn more about, and hope to obtain some for they are more like a ground cover and are gorgeous.

There is also an evergreen shrub that doesn't mind wet feet and thrives in drought which can be used as a screen type border. This I will check out more about tomorrow when I visit to take photo.

There is an ornamental grass that I fell in love with that has fine, pink plumes.

I can't wait to take some photo of my favorite plants at the sale. Too bad, I can't afford to buy them all. There is lots of ginger. And the frangrance is like a strong perfume, very sweet.

And for those of you who want to learn more about making professional labels that will not bleach from sun or wash away in the rain, I will be taking some video of that also, so we can talk about it. These aren't the colored tags with pictures, but include enough space to list details about habitat and growing instructions as well as the price.

Thanks for you patience...

Hi Ann,

Read my post on hypertufa. titled Equal Parts.
That is the recipe, and that is how it is done.
Worked well! No breakage, or crumble or cracks.

Also listed what I saw on a Ga. Pub Tv. Gardening show.
using concrete cinder blocks.

The pictures will be a great help for those of us in need of more info!
I can not wait to see how the professional looking labels are made!
As well as all the pictures.
I'm off to look up the fern companion right now, cause it sounds really neat.

Thanks for the good job!
