Christmas seems to be coming early this year ... everywhere I look... I am running into old roses ... with cuttings available for the taking (no ... not making midnight runs .... either have permission or they are in remote areas.) I am up to 8 in last week. I also drive a lot through remote areas.... in my work.

I am wondering how long it will take from cutting to production? Also .... should I place the "bagged cuttings" outside ... or keep them under the lights as winter hits?

If u have an interest in old roses ... check out the Rose Rustlers site ... they have a lot of information on staying out of jail ... when obtaining the cuttings.

Hopefully .... won't kill too many of the with my inexperience.

Jim,

What fun you are having!

Keep these under lights until their roots are really strong and healthy. In fact, since you are just starting out on these, I would keep them protected until after the last frost.

When you see new growth and roots coming out of the bottom of the pot (in about 3-4 weeks), open the bag and let them get used to less humidity. Then repot them in 1 gallon pots. At that time, put them near a sunny window.

Here is the link to the Rose Rustler site you spoke about and another good one, the American Rose Society.
